Good news for Texas cruisers: Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas is on her way back to North America after a major refurbishment in Europe, and Galveston will be her home for the months ahead.
The Freedom-class ship wrapped up a summer season sailing from the United Kingdom and began a 15-night repositioning voyage from Southampton to Galveston on October 16, 2026. Along the way, the sailing calls on ports in Spain and Portugal, including Vigo, Lisbon and Funchal, before arriving in Texas.
Once in Galveston, Liberty will settle into a year-round schedule of short Western Caribbean getaways. Most sailings run four or five nights with stops in Mexico, including Cozumel and Costa Maya — an easy option for a long weekend at sea. On select dates there are longer choices too, including a nine-night sailing in August 2027 that adds Roatán, George Town and Falmouth to the mix. The Galveston deployment runs through April 2028, when the ship is scheduled to head back to Europe for a summer in the Mediterranean.
Guests will also notice plenty that is new on board. During a refit in France earlier this year under the Royal Amplified program, the 3,812-passenger, 2007-built ship gained additional staterooms, a Starbucks, an Izumi Teppanyaki restaurant, an expanded Casino Royale, a Royal Escape Room and a refreshed pool deck with a Caribbean-inspired look. The updated ship returned to service in May before its Southampton season.
